Final(?) pass complete

Late last night, instead of posting my Friday thoughts, I was finishing the last polish of my manuscript.

I say last, but as an editor — once an editor, always an editor, right? — I will do one more copy-editing check for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. (My journalism colleagues will note I’ve adopted the Oxford comma as part of this journey.)

Teri and Enzo’s story, Come Fly with Me, is in a good state, I think. I’m sure a professional fiction editor could offer more suggestions, but I’m not sure when, or if, I will send it through that process.

If I self-publish, I suppose I won’t, unless I put up the cost without any expectation of making the money back. I could chalk it up to a leaning experience, treating it like a writing class.

I also need to head up into the Hill Country to shoot the cover art for the book. I have been using an AI-generated image as a placeholder, but I want to see what I can do with my camera in real life.

Right now, publishing through Amazon Kindle Direct seems easiest. Since I’m not retiring any time soon, following the traditional path to becoming published seems daunting.

Plus, I’m itching to get to reworking that story I wrote years ago. I have so many ideas on how to make it what it should be. That one will follow Gia, one of Enzo’s sisters, through an adventure that tests her faith in God’s will for a friend and then for herself.

If anyone has advice on taking that step into publishing, please reach out. I’m a sponge and can’t wait to learn from others’ experiences.
